When are California Property Tax payments due?

It’s tax time! Below is a schedule reflecting the payment due dates for fiscal year 2019-2020.

If you purchased a home over this past year the tax bill may still be calculated on the previous sale price not the price you paid for your home. The city takes some time to catch up with new sales at which time they reassess the value and taxes are recalculated using the new sale price. This will come in the form of a Supplemental Tax.

The Supplemental Tax is calculated using the delta in price between previous sale price and the new sale price and recalculating taxes from the new purchase date. My recommendation is to flag your calendar to check at the first of each month to check online if the supplemental tax bill has been issued.
